Enrollment Period
You have 90 days from your sixty-fifth birthday to decide which type of Medicare plan to enroll in. If you don’t select a plan, you will automatically be enrolled in Original Medicare.
Annual Election Period
Between November 15 and December 31, you may change your plan by selecting any option that you are eligible for. The revised plan will become effective on January 1. If you choose to do nothing, your coverage will remain the same.
Open Enrollment Period
During January 1 through March 31, you may choose to switch your selected coverage. However, you must choose a plan that is the same type as your current one. For example, if you select a Medicare Advantage plan, you can only switch to another Medicare Advantage plan. You cannot enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan.
Of course, there are exceptions to the above timelines. If you change residences or if your plan becomes unavailable, you may select another plan no matter what time of year it is.
